New York City
Today our unit traveled to New York City. We arrived around 10:15 am and then proceeded to the Museum of Modern Art. We stayed at the museum for about an hour and a half where we were able to see many unique paintings, portraits, and sketches. At the Museum of Modern Art, not only does one learn about the painting but also its historical context in terms of the painter and the painting itself. To really appreciate the paintings, I learned to not skim through them all and just visualize it for what it is but instead to look deeper in order to depict the central meaning/purpose of the photo. The best thing about going to museums and observing the paintings is that everyone can interpret the painting/sketch in their own way. For example, in Van Gogh's paintings, there is no one definite meaning but millions of different ways to look at the painting making it very rare and valuable. Personally, my favorite types of paintings were the impressionist paintings because they do not come from a tangible thing but are drawn from the imagination which I find to be very creative. Thereafter we went to the Hard Rock Cafe where we not only ate great food but also learned about rock and roll history, memorabilia, and concerts making for a fulfilled and worthwhile day.
